Rewiring Done Without Wrecking Your Home

If your home still has cloth or rubber-insulated wiring, ceramic fuses, or a switchboard with no safety switches, it was wired for a different era, and it is quietly a risk. Old insulation goes brittle, circuits get overloaded by modern appliances, and DIY add-ons pile up. Rewiring brings the whole house up to a safe, modern standard.

We rewire Queenslanders and older homes across Brisbane, Ipswich and Logan, and the craft is doing it neatly: working through roof and subfloor spaces, lifting boards rather than cutting walls where we can, and protecting the character details that make these homes worth keeping. You get modern wiring and a home that still looks like itself.

Signs Your Home Needs Rewiring

Homes do not usually announce that they need rewiring; the signs build up. Frequent tripping, flickering lights, warm or discoloured power points, a faint burning smell, not enough outlets so everything runs on double adaptors, and of course ceramic fuses or cloth-insulated wiring in the roof. Any of these is worth an inspection.

We check the board, the wiring and the earthing, and tell you honestly whether you need a full rewire, a partial one, or just a repair. Rewiring is a big job, so we would rather scope it accurately than oversell it, and we stage the work to keep your home livable throughout.

What a Rewire Includes

A complete, certified job, done with care.

  • Old wiring safely removed and replaced
  • New switchboard with safety switches
  • Extra power points and lighting as wanted
  • Data and future provisions while walls are open
  • Work staged to keep the home livable
  • Character finishes protected
  • Every circuit tested and certified
  • Compliance documentation supplied

Why Old Wiring Is Worth Taking Seriously

Old electrical wiring is one of the leading causes of house fires, and Brisbane has plenty of homes still running it:

  • Rubber and cloth-insulated cable from the mid-1900s that goes brittle and crumbles
  • Ceramic fuses that offer no protection against electric shock
  • Circuits never designed for today's appliance loads
  • Decades of undocumented DIY and part-repairs

Rewiring removes that risk in one go and future-proofs the home. If you are unsure whether you need a full rewire, our guide to rewiring costs explains what drives the price, and our switchboard upgrade page covers the board side.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can't find your answer? Call 07 3813 0067 and we will happily talk it through.

How much does it cost to rewire a house in Brisbane?
It depends on the home's size, age and access. Rather than a phone guess, we do a free on-site assessment and give you a fixed quote. Our rewiring cost guide explains what drives the price.
Do I need a full rewire or just some circuits?
Not always the whole house. If only certain circuits are failing, a partial rewire may be enough. But if the home has cloth wiring, ceramic fuses or no safety switches, a full rewire is usually the safe, cost-effective answer. We will tell you honestly.
Can you rewire without damaging my walls?
Largely, yes. We work through roof and subfloor cavities and lift boards rather than cutting walls wherever possible. Some patching is sometimes unavoidable, and we minimise and tidy it.
How long does a rewire take?
A typical home is a few days to a week depending on size and access. We stage the work to keep parts of the home powered and tell you the timeline before starting.
Is it worth adding things during a rewire?
Definitely. Extra power points, better lighting, data, and provision for air con, solar or EV charging are all far cheaper while the walls and ceilings are already open.
Will the rewire be certified?
Yes. Every circuit is tested and you receive compliance documentation, which matters for insurance and any future sale.
